What is WordPress? WP is an opensource website content management system (CMS) that officially started in 2003.

WP is an amazing free website creation tool for everyone to use regardless you are building a personal blog or a corporate website.

You may not believe but it is 36% of the whole internet, that is like millions of website… and I am sure millions means a lot of websites.

Behind The Scenes

What is WordPress built on? WP is built on PHP and MySQL and released under GPLv2 (or later) which means you can use it any way you like. So, if you have the skills go ahead and change things as you need. You can even make money off it if you know how to.

WP first started as a blogging software but is now used for almost any kind of website. For instance, this blog is using WordPress and so are The New York Times, The Obama Foundation, Sweden’s Official Website and even world’s fastest man Usain Bolt’s website uses WP.

If you have an explainable imagination of your next website then it can turn into a possibility with WP. Go ahead and try it I am sure you will love it.

What is WordPress.org?

There are two WordPress. WordPress.org and WordPress.com. WordPress.org is where you can download and install WordPress and for that you will need a web host, a domain name and few minutes to setup.

You will be able to fully customise the software script from WordPress.org. However, WordPress.com hosts your WordPress-based blogs for you and doesn’t give you the freedom.

WordPress.com is perfect place if you would like to start a blog or website. You will not need to spend even a single dollar as they offer free (and premium) services.

Therefore, I strongly recommend, if you haven’t already, go check them out. As you don’t need any coding skills or thousands of dollars to start a website with WP.

You only need what you want to show the world through your website. There are thousands of free (and paid) plugins, widgets and themes that will help you built an amazing website/blog.

You may run into problems and feel like lost when building you website with WP. Remember there is an amazing support and documentation. These documentations cover everything about WP and you guessed it right, it is FREE!
